Shut Down Windows Automatically


Are you a Programmer, of course. I know and all you work Late Night. Lets know how to make our Computer to tell us that, Its time to Sleep. Today I am here to Tell you that How to Shut Down Windows automatically and go to Sleep using Task Scheduler in Windows 8.

We, means I and you all are Programmers, Developers, or other professionals related to Computer and it is the known and accepted that Most of Programmers and Developers work at Night because it is peaceful and full of Idea.

But for Our Health and continuous work on Computer or Screens, it becomes necessary to give our Eyes Rest. At least 7-8 hours sleep (Closing of Eyes) is required in my personal view and at least we should try to keep that period more than 6 hours a day.

Suppose you are Working at Night, Its late night, about 1 or 2 AM in the morning. Soon it will become morning and we have to prepare for Office or other daily jobs.

Today I am here to Tell you that How to Shut Down Windows automatically and go to Sleep.

This Tutorials is Created using Windows 8, and also applies for previous Windows versions Like Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP but accessing methods and screens may differ.

Have you noticed a Windows Feature that was inside Administrative Tasks in Control Panel, named Scheduled Tasks.
Lets Open by Searching in Start Screen.
Just Press Windows+C and Type Scheduled Tasks and Choose Settings below Search box.
Or You can launch this by Visiting Control Panel >> System and Security >> Administrative Tools >> Schedule Tasks

Also by Run Command : control schedtasks

Start Screen with Search
Click on Scheduled Task and Again Click on Task Scheduler Library on the Left Pane.
You will see screen like below.

It will take some Time Depending upon your Systems Configuration. Just be Patient and wait for this screen.

Just choose Daily and Click Next.

Click Next to see below Screen and Set Time here.

Click Next and Choose Start a Program and then Click Next to Choose Program.
Now Type below Path : C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe in Application path or Manually Locate the shutdown.exe by Clicking Browse. Note that Shutdown.exe is Located inside system32 folder of Windows on Root Drive.

In above screen, shutdown.exe is a built-in Program of Windows which is itself a Executable. -s is used to tell the Shutdown program to shutdown.
Click Next and Finish To Complete Task. Your PC will be automatically shutdown on the Scheduled Time Automatically and also notify you before shutdown.

To see the Complete List of Arguments or options of shutdown.exe, Look for Help on DOS. Just Open DOS (Command Prompt) and type HELP SHUTDOWN. You will see the Complete List.
