If you want to buy latest PDF book, why don't you go with sql server 2016 books, it has lot of benefit over SQL 2008 and 2012, Microsoft SQL Server 2016 delivers breakthrough in-memory performance, unparalleled security, end-to-end mobile BI and advanced analytics. We want you to see for yourself why Microsoft is recognized as an industry leader across the data platform, with Gartner Magic Quadrant leadership in Operational DBMS (ahead of Oracle, IBM, and SAP), BI, and Analytics and Data Warehousing.
Any book from Microsoft press will do the task.

As you beginning newly you can go for SQL SERVER 2016 or else atleast SQL SERVER 2012.
Instead of Text Book I prefer websites. Because books are predefined one if you are struck some where you cant go further. But you can learn more on website. There are plenty of websites available for SQL.

In that case, I prefer the book "Microsoft SQL Server 2012" by Patrick Leblanc from Eastern Economy Edition.
You can refer the book content in Amazon for a glance and topics that are covered in it.
