When You will open the file it will ask to upgrade the solution. and it will convert the file accordingly. So You can easily open the solution in VS 2010

Hi,
File Conversion wizard is used to open lower version files to higher version files. Vice versa is not allowed.
Also wizard gives you provision to take backup of your original file.

Visual studio 2010 showing an Error message while converting the project. proName.csdproj cannot be opened because its project type(.csdproj) in not supported by this version of the application.
