if you are using Call / Start orchestrtaions receive shapre not required otherwise u must use receive to get you incoming data.

As R.Prasad has clearly stated, it is not mandatory, but even if you call an orchestration, that orchestration would possibly have a Receive shape. A Receive shape is the portal through which the message is moved in an orchestration.
