What is SEO ?
This chapter defines the term SEO
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
Search Engine Optimization is the process where a web site is optimized to get better ranking in search results in popular search engines.
When you search for any term in search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN, you may see millions of web sites in your search results. But you may visit only one or two top sites from results. Only if a site appears in top 10 results, people will look into them.
As a web site owner, you must aim to get listed in top 10 results for your site's primary keywords. If you simply create a web site and host it, it may not appear in any search engine search results, even if it is the best web site in the world in the specific domain. You must do several optimizations in your web site to appear in search results. This process is called 'Search Engine Optimization'.
There are several companies specializing in SEO. They will make changes to your website and optimize for specific keywords so that they will appear in top results in search results.
