How to search Single node from XML
You can do in this way also....

Xmldocument xmldoc =new XmlDocument();
xmldoc.Load(pathof the filename);
var curnode = xmldoc.selectSingleNode("//pop/error");
string nodename = currnode.Text

The difference between two is SelectSingleNode will return fairst matching node rather than the list of all matching Nodes

Filtering data using DataView
hi shine,

My implication is right.Generally we deal with large recordsets or datasets.Not for 10 records or 20 records.We have to see in a larger picture every time when we are programming.

With our discussion we both gain advantage and perfectly know which scenario we have to use dataview.rowfilter and datatable.select.

Thanks for the conversation.Hope you enjoyed our discussion.

Filtering data using DataView
Hi shine,

There are advantages and disadvantages for both things when you row filter for a very less number of records i think dataview is perfect.So for large number of records datatable.select() is effective and yield more fruitful result and there is another one more option datatable.rows.find().It is also handy in some scenarios.

Hi shine,

Thank you for valuable suggestion.Sorry for giving the Rough answer

Filtering data using DataView
Select is bit more efficient than rowfilter but it depends on amount of data queried and index. i.e. if Dataview and DataTable are pre-indexed than performance is not significant if not than Select on DataTable is seems faster.

So main thing is index creation!! (not only)

With Rowfilter you need extra objects, like you have in your code making a dataview first.

overheads in your code:

index on DataView is twice in your code created twice first time when its created from datatable and second time you apply row filter. (refer:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms971481.aspx)

Filtering data using DataView
Hi shine

Dataview is a very Huge Object.Hence we need to avoid to take dataviews as much as possible.

First, let's look at DataView.RowFilter: A DataView has some advantages in Data Binding. Its very view-oriented so it has powerful sorting, filtering or searching features, but creates some overhead and is not optimized for performance. I would choose the DataView.RowFilter for smaller recordsets and/or where you take advantage of the other features (like, a direct data binding to the view).

DataTable.Select is slower, but can come very handy if you have multiple criteria and don't care about indexed or unindexed rows: It can find basically everything but is not optimized for performance. Essentially, DataTable.Select has to walk the entire table and compare every record to the criteria that you passed in.

Filtering data using DataView
Hi SHine,

No need of loop of all rows, dataset.tables[o].select() with return a datarow than just one more datatable add datarows to the table or merge dr rows in datatable.

Filtering data using DataView
Hi,

There is no necessity to take dataview and filter we can filter with in the dataset with the help of dataset.select("","")
string is expression the other one is sort expression

Sorting data in the dataset
Hi,

Using dataview is not necessary we can filter the dataset with out dataview by using this dataset.select("", "columname asc")

Import Data from Excel to SQL Server using ASP.Net
Hi,

You are taking a datareader which is a connection oriented.How many rows You made the connection alive whay can n't take datable and update the things for insert you can directly go for sqlbulkcopy.or you can change the datatable convert into xml and then sent to sqldatabase.

What is cursor in Sql Server and its type?
Hi saranya,

I read your article.As you mentioned about cursors.But at the end of the article 'Cursors are the SLOWEST way to access data inside SQL-Server.And Cursor is thirty times slower than set based alternatives'.is wrong interpretation/Analysis.Cursors are slow when you are using other than 'Fast-forward' option.If you have a scenario to fetch row by row data and move fast-forward direction.Cursors are more efficient than while loop.Because the cursors are pointing out to next record.And it will not allocate any memory to move backward or scrollable.

Thanks and Regards
