Spark Lines in MS Excel 2010

A SparkLine is basically a small chart displayed in a cell. SparkLines are tiny, word sized charts that can appear in a cell. It enable us to create visual representation of data easily. Use SparkLines to show trends in a series of values such as seasonal increase or decrease, economic cycles etc.,.



 


Locate SparkLines

In order to locate the SparkLines option

1. Go to --> Insert menu
2. In SparLines choose the type of chart
3. Create SparkLines popup will be displayed
4. Select the Data range
5. Select Location range and
6. Click OK

Color

Color Schema can be applied to the SparkLines by selecting a built-in format from the style gallery. SparkLine color or Marker color can be used to choose a color from high to low.

SparkLines are printed. When you print the worksheet that contains SparkLines.

Design tab

When you select a cell that contain SparkLines, then the Design tab will be displayed in the menu.

Data Markers

We can show Data Markers to highlight individual values.
In the Design Tab select Markers checkbox to show all values.
Select any of the high or low to show individual values.

Handle Empty Cells or Zero values

SparkLine handles empty cells by using Hidden and Empty Cell settings.
In the Design tab
Select Edit Data
Select Hidden and Empty cell Settings
A dialog box will be displayed where we can set to handle empty cells and hidden values.
