Oracle Database Restoration Operation
The Article explain you the easy way to restore the oracle database preferably Oracle10g.
Before Restoring the Crash Database dump having extension .dmp, you need to create a database Instance.
Creatiing Database Instance
Oracle10g provides a UserInterface to create a database instance.User navigate to Oracle10g_home1-Configuration and Migration Tools-Database Configuration Assistant. This screen allows user to create a database instance/Oracle Instance. User has to enter Global Database Name and SID(Oracle System Identifier) which is uniquely identified by any other system. There are altogether 12 steps for the instance creation.
Creating Tablespace and Datafiles
After creating database instance,user should launch Database control-< Global Database Name > from the main menu. User should login with sysdba since sysdba has the full right to perform any operation with the database.go to Administration tab.
The Administration Tab shows links used to administer database objects and to perform database operation. User clicks on Tablespace link to create Tablespace and datafiles. This is the most important step of the Restoration Activity. User Should be Aware of the Tablespace and Datafiles of the database dump and should create appropriate Tablespace and Datafiles. when adding datafiles, the user should check Automatically extend datafile when full extend is on before continuing.
Creating Users
After Creating Tablespace & datafiles, user has to create Users for the Specific Tablespace. This is the second most important step of the operation.User has to Create User and assign Appropriate Default Tablespace and Temporary Tablespace.
After Completing the above two steps user now can fire the import command to fully restore the dump.
imp userid= <username/password@databasename> full=y ignore=y log=import.log
if you are firing the command using sys it again might ask for user name and password
username = sys as sysdba
password = prompted while creating database instance.
If you are unaware of tablespace and datafile then the log file will show you up the details of tablespace and datafiles missing after import command is fired.
