its a microsoft methodology that provied querying capabilities to MS programming langages like .Net

3 major Componets to LINQ
1)LINQ to Objects
2) LINQ to ADO.NET, which includes
2.1 LINQ to DataSet (originally called LINQ over DataSet)
2.2 LINQ to Entities
2.3 LINQ to SQL (originally called DLinq)
3) LINQ to XML (originally called XLinq)
