XHTML, HTML, XML and CSS
XHTML is the abbreviated form of Extensible Hypertext Markup Language. It is a new advanced form of HTML, which belongs to the XML technology. Hence, XHTML has inherited the features from both HTML and XML.
• Like HTML, XHTML can be used to create web pages. There are some small differences but all the capabilities of regular HTML are preserved in XHTML.
• Like XML, XHTML can be used with all XML applications, and the code is much stricter and stable here.
For an XHTML page to appear correctly and work properly, the browser must support XHTML. To maintain reverse compatibility with older browsers, XHTML files must be coded with care.
XHTML and CSS
There are several rules that apply to XHTML files that use CSS: • Property names and property values must be coded in lower case. • If CSS is inserted into an external file, an XML style-sheet declaration must be added using the syntax:
