Each computer must have a name Operating System, where the operating system is working to do the job, such as sending Inputan entering via the keyboard, sending output to the screen display, maintaining files and directories to keep awake in storage, and of course controlling any additional devices such as disk drives, printers and other devices.

For a large system, operating system tasks and functions have a larger, like a traffic guard, where the operating system task is to manage different application programs that run in the same period, without not collide or crash each other. The operating system also has responsibility for security, ensuring that users are not recognized can not access the computer system.

Operating systems can be divided into several sections like the following:

# Multi-user: Allows two or more users to run programs in the same period. And even the few operating systems, allowing hundreds or even thousands of users to run programs on the operating system in the same period.

# Multiprocessing: Supports the program goes on more than one CPU.

# Multitasking: Allows more than one program to run simultaneously.

# Multithreading: Allows different parts of a program to run simultaneously.

# Real time: Responding Inputan quickly. Some common operating sysem like DOS, and UNIX.

Operating systems provide a basic program that will run the first time from other programs. And the program is called the application program. Applications should be noted that the program can be run in an operating system. And therefore choose the appropriate application programs to run on the operating system you have. Currently there are multiple operating systems that can be used on a PC such as DOS, OS / 2, Windows, Linux and several other operating systems.

We as a computer user will interact with a few commands provided in the operating system, for example, is the Copy and Rename command where the command can be used to duplicate and rename files. The commands are accepted and run by a part of the operating system called "command processor" or "command line interpreter". With a system of "Graphical user interfaces" then we will be much easier to perform these commands by simply directing the cursor and click on an object that appears on the screen.
