Microsoft has specified more than thirty objectives for the test, which are grouped under seven topics. Following are some important areas in which an individual should possess good knowledge before taking the test:

3. Instantiating and invoking a Web service or component.
4. Creating, implementing, and handling events.
5. Implementing online user assistance.
6. Transforming and filtering data.
7. Creating and modifying a .NET assembly and adding assemblies to the global assembly cache.
8. Instantiating and invoking Web services and components.
9. Implementing globalization.
10. Handling events.
11. Using intrinsic objects.
12. Creating Web user controls and Web custom controls.
13. Accessing and manipulating data from a Microsoft SQL Server database by creating and using ad hoc queries and stored procedures.
14. Accessing and manipulating data from a data store.
15. Understanding ADO.NET and the difference between DataReader, DataAdapter, and DataSet.
16. Debugging, reworking, and resolving defects in code.
17. Implementing tracing.
18. Configuring security for a Web-based application.
19. Configuring authorization.
20. Configuring and implementing caching.
21. Deploying a Web-based application.
