Sessions are used to store variables in server side .Asp provides three distinct ways to store session variables for your application. There are three ways to store session variables ,you need to mention session mode in web.config file in your application.

1.In-proc
2.State Server
3.Sql server

In-proc: If you maintain your session state as In-proc means session variables are stored in process .It is fastest solution since it is stored in the process itself, but it is used to store small amount of data only and it is not reliable.In-proc is process dependent.

State Server: It is a process independent . If we declare our session mode as State server means it will store session variables in worker process that means it will store in application domain, but when we save web.config means the session gets expired.

Sql Server: If we store session modes in sql server means session variables are stored in sql server. It’s a process independent . It is reliable but performance wise fast.
