Master pages in 2.0:

This is one of the advanced concept in web 2.0 instead of going to the designers to design our web application directly we can design by using Master pages. In 1.1 we had User controls that we used to specify header and footer, some left navigations and also instead of going for different User controls here we are having master pages to have design layout in our application it is mainly used for look and feel purpose .

How to Create Master pages:

In the solution explorer right click on that and add new item, and in that add Master page the extension of master page is Masterpage.master. And in the Master pages you can have header ,footer and all the static design which you want throughout the application. There is “contentplaceholder“ field when we want to change or include some fields in the design means we can have changes the the contentplace holder.

Including master pages in aspx page:

After creating the masterpages we can include that in our web form. Add a new webform to our application and when you are adding the webform you will be having one checkbox down side as select mastre page click on that then you will be having one more page as select masterpage click on the masterpage and click ok so master page is added to our application. So in our application the first line of our application is like this

Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="MasterpageSampleaspx.aspx.cs" Inherits="MasterpageSampleaspx" Title="Untitled Page" %>

Note: Over view of master pages is explained
