The sharepoint server 2007 does not have a place to create a new area.
Because sharepoint server 2007 does not have a concept of areas.The area
container contains the information called site.To make a new site you need
not to go to sites as like WSS(WINDOWS SHAREPOINT SERVER) 2003.Rather
than that you can go to site actions which is present at the right corner.
In that click on create site.Now it will create a new site under home page.
The WSS 2003 contains three templates like Title,Discription and Template
selection.But in 2007 we have more like Title bar,Description bar and URL name.
In that title bar enter site name like"team site1".And in the description bar
enter like "to collaborate"and in that URL name enter like"team site1".The
window sharepoint server 2007 contains a feature called navigation inheritance,
but WSS2003 does not contain this property.We can also inherit the permissions
from this site.WSS 2003 does not have a good navigation property.
Then you have to create a site called site categories.you can select in
division and region how the site appear in the site directory.Then select
one template in that three templatea present there which are named as
collaboration,meeting and enterprise.If you click on collaboration and in
that you choose like team site,blog site or an wiki site what ever you need
you can select.These are not available in WSS 2003.If you click on meeting,
it is as same as WSS 2003.If you click on enterprise tab, it is a site to
centrally manage all documents and enterprise.Also report centre site, in
this design and disply components,graph and charts are presents.Also one
search centre is there, it serves mainpace for enterprise search to conduct
enterprise search.
Team site here to inherit the navigation structure. You can also add more
components through this.
