Do you want to protect your software from illegal copying and installation ?
For protecting the software you have to implement a serial number system. Here you can provide a number with your product CD and the software will generate a number from the users computer while installing the product. The newly generating number must be generated in terms of the customers HardDisk serial number. You can provide a webservice to generate a third serial number for this user. This 3rd number will be generated in terms of the first two serial numbers. Do some calculations with first two numbers so you will get third number. KEEP THIS CALCULATION AS A CONFIDENTIAL ONE - DONT GIVE THIS LOGIC TO ANYBODY;
As an alternate you can generate and provide the 3rd number through email or over phone.
In client side also we have a pre implemented logic for this calculation so that it will check the accuracy there. If its correct then it will encript and store the numbers in customers computer. Each time the software will check the harddisk serial number, make the nesessary calculations and compare the stored values. If they are not matching or they are different then it will ask for registartion.
