Type Casting Problem in C#

There are number of situations where we need to apply casting between the objects of base class and derived class. C# permits upcasting of an object of a derived class to an object of its base class. We cannot downcast implicitly an object of a base class to an object of its derived class.

class Base{ }
class Derived : Base { }

Base b = new Derived(); // Correct, Upcasting

Derived d = new Base(); // Error, downcasting

In case a downcast is required, it can be achieved using an explicit cast operation.
