Introduction to MOSS 2007(Microsoft office SharePoint Server)

Moss 2007 is a web portal. It aims to provide Enterprise web search, web content management, Business Intelligence, Work place where we can meet and share ideas and documents.

Moss is also a custom platform for web development. Using Share Point object model we can develop web part and deploy the web parts in Moss 2007 as a web part in web part gallery. Web part gallery will have number of predefined templates. Web parts can be developed by using Visual studio with web part template.

In Office 2007 we have WSS (Windows SharePoint services) and Office SharePoint server.

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, the new SharePoint Servers is build on top of the SharePoint services.WSS contains Collaboration solutions, Document Storage (Document Library) and Web development Platform. Office SharePoint server includes Portal, Search and Enterprise content management.
