Mono is a cross-platform implementation of .NET which enables the development of cross-platform applications. This is great because it helps us to run .net applications on linux and mac.

It has C# Compiler http://www.mono-project.com/CSharp_Compiler, a Mono Runtime http://www.mono-project.com/Mono:Runtime, etc. These are all implemented as per ECMA standards

From version Mono 1.2 there is no security model like CAS – Code Access Security, but in future versions Mono will be with CAS.
