While storing the file into the disk, the file will be divided into several parts based on the memory this is called fragmentation. when we retrivin the file the processor should read the file from the disk using their address each and every fragmentiaon will be stored in different location not in a squence order so for fetching that whole file it may take much time for large file, To avoid this time we can defragment that file, not only that file we can defragemnt the whole drive. if we want to defragment the dirve(c or d etc.,) right click on that drive and go to properties and select tools tab there you can choose the defragment button using this we can do the defragmentation.
