The Problem
Visual Studio projects upgraded from 2003 to 2005 often crashes with the error message given below:
The "Vbc" task failed unexpectedly
Microsoft has acknowledged that is a bug in Visual Studio. Good thing is they have a fix for this. But the worsth thing is, they do not give the fix to you (yet).
What is the fix ? Is there a workaround ?
You have couple of options:
1. Wait until Microsoft release a service pack for Visual Studio 2005.
2. Call Microsoft service desk and pay them to get the patch. They may refund you the money if you can prove that "the problem was really a VS.NET bug"
3. Follow these steps in Visual Studio:
- Go to the menu Tools > Options
- Expand the tree node Debugging > Edit & Continue
- Un check the option "Enable Edit and Continue"
I used the option 3. It works really cool so far without the Edit & Cotinue feature!
