Mobile Internet Systems Architect/Team Leader Job Description and Role This document will set out the job description and role for a Mobile Internet Systems Architect and Team Leader (Architect) who will architect and manage the development of software systems, test tools and analysis tools for GRPS and 3G Satellite services. Mobile Internet Ltd (MIL) is a small company based in London, England who specialise in the development of Test and Monitoring tools and terrestrial infrastructure for mobile satellite data services. The company structure is shown below. MIL’s customers consist of satellite Internet communications operators and service providers. The goal of the Indian development team will be to develop and maintain the components for a satellite 3G infrastructure. The specific software products the Architect will work on are · Satellite and 3G protocol analysers and expert analysers based on the Ethereal · Call state analysis and reporting tools · Frequency management analysis and reporting tools · Satellite channel usage management analysis and reporting tools · 3G RAN protocol stacks and support systems · 3G UT protocol stacks and support systems · Internet Service Provider Management and Provisioning systems
2 Specific Skills requirements The Architect will have responsibility leading the software development team and developing the software architectures for GPRS/3G/ISP and WLAN service provision platforms, including software design of radio access node, core network, ISP and OSS and CSS systems. The skills required are as follows · C/C++ and Java · Knowledge of protocol stack architectures · Real time and Embedded software · Linux · Basic working knowledge of Linux or other Unix · Windows · Basic working knowledge of Windows · Networking · Excellent understanding of networking · Knowledge of GPRS and 3G · Knowledge if ISPs · Software Life Cycle · Feasibility, Technical P{proposal writing · Requirements, Analysis, Design · Test Strategy generation and test tool specification · Management of software development, Integration and Testing · Knowledge of CASE tools · Knowledge of object orientated software design methodologies · Project Management · Pragmatic and result focused project management skills · Excellent people management · Ability to inspire a team of developers · Ability to work with remote clients · Documentation · Excellent English · Excellent Documentation skills
3 Reporting, Communications and Responsibilities The Architect will report to John Bourke, Managing Director and founder of Mobile Internet, and to future Director level staff based in London. As Team Leader the architect will be responsible for the management of the Protocol and Systems teams. Management includes both project and line management. The Architect will liaise with the host company to use best practises for management of staff. All staff will report directly to the Architect. The Architect will be responsible for mentoring and developing the skills of the staff and to ensure the best performance from the staff, and so that the results meets MIL’s customer satisfaction. The Architect will be responsible for maintaining the correct skills levels in the Team and ensuring continuity by maintaining backup staff for each skill. The Architect will be responsible for providing a disaster recovery and contingence plan cover staff and infrastructure to the Managing Director every three months. The Architect will be responsible for writing and maintaining the Job Specification for all staff. The Architect will be responsible for recruiting staff where necessary. The Architect will be required to work directly with MIL’s customers buy phone, fax, email and messaging or interactive communications links. The Architect will be required to provide support of MIL’s operation systems. This will require providing telephone and online support to MIL’s customers in the event of a system outage a customer site. It is critical that the Architect participate fully in this support as it is important for them to grasp how and were their developed software will be used. This support will involve after hours call out. 4 Work The Architect will be required to work on long term development projects as well as short term and hoc projects. The short term projects involve · Enhancement and maintenance of MIL’s Channel Analyser product which is a protocol analysis and expert tools for analysing satellite packet data networks. · Enhancement and maintenance of MIL’s satellite Internet Service Provider infrastructure Long term projects include · Development of a pico Satellite 3G system for provision of satellite 3G services in small areas The architect should devote 50% of their time to management and 50% of their time to development work.
