ho can i get "exp.doc" from c:\temp\exp.doc using split function?

mainly how can i get the file+extesion name from the total file validation?
let us take
"string=c:\temp\sss.doc "
from thsi string i want only
sss.doc how can i use sss.doc?using split function.
pls send the code
