Career profile change options for 6years experienced

Posted Date: 22 Jul 2012      Posted By:: GD     Member Level: Bronze    Member Rank: 3976     Points: 5   Responses: 7

Hello,

I have 6+ years of experience in .NET in a single company.
I have mainly worked on company specific tools and have got less of dot net exposure.
I have not done any certification or I am not interested in core coding.
I want to change the company. Software work that involves less of coding and more of configuration suits me best.
I have developed confidence problem and depression due to not finding a proper solution.
Please suggest me what options do I have with the current scenario ?

Thanks,
GD

Hi,
As you have 6+ experience, you can ask for team lead / project lead/ module lead position which includes job roles like managing resources , understanding requirements , analysis etc. You can also ask for onsite positions in which you will get client interaction , business analysis and more visibility. You can convey your aspirations to your company HR , global resource allocation team of your company to get suitable openings. or else you find these job profiles in market by enrolling your profile at various jobs portal.
You can also ask your friends to refer your profile in their companies.

All the best!
Regards,
Prachi Kulkarni.

Hi Prachi,

Thanks for the suggestions.
I have tried different options in my current company but nothing worked out. Now I am not confident enough to take the lead role for a team. I want to get confidence on whatever I am doing.
My next question would be how good or easy would be to change to Business Intelligence or MS Sharepoint 2010 ? Which option is better compared to my experience and my hatred with coding.

Thanks,
GD

Hi,
Do not loose the confidence because as you get more and more experience, seniors will assign more challenging roles/lead roles.
If you develop leadership ability in you then it will be good from your career perspective.
Regarding business intelligence and sharepoint , i suggest you to choose sharepoint if you like to provide applications based on intranet portals, document & file management, collaboration, social networks, extranets, websites, enterprise search, and business intelligence as well. Business intelligence includes getting the right information to the right people, at the right time, via the right channel.
All the best!

Best regards,
Prachi.

Hello GD.
I have read the comments by Prachi.I think she is right.
You need not to loose hope. Just think you have nothing to loose. Try to be more expressive while in your interviews. Six years of experience does not mean to have low confidence. If you don't want to continue with coding choose the field which best suits, appear for the many interviews as much as possible. One day one will definitely reach the goal.

Hai GD,
As you have enough experience of being in the industry, so you can go for the Team Lead or Project Lead designation where you need to handle the team most of the time rather than doing the core coding task. But as you will be at the higher level, so you should be enough confident to be in the position.
Hope for the best.
