Hi,
I am software developer. I have an experience of 3+ years in .NET. Now, I want a career switch from .NET to data warehousing and data mining. Can anyone throw some light on this as to what resources are required for this and will this be a wise decision.

Regards,
Raman S V

Hi Raman,

Learn the business intellgence tool of microsoft such as SSIS,SSRS, SSAS but do not leave the dot net behind as with combination of all this you will be in a good demand for all the companies as it is used by most of the companies.
Just you want to install the sql server business intelligence studio on to your desktop or laptop.
The pre-requisite are the same as dot net but it is good if you install windows enterprise 2003 server edition and then install all the required software on to it.

Thanks,

Deepak Rawat

Hi Raman,

I agree with Deepak Rawat Point. I think you have good knowledge in . Net, because you said you have three years experience in .Net. Now you are good position in your career.

So no need to change your career, stay there. Nowadays .Net is most wanted and salary also good.

Thanks and Regards

Hi,
.net itself gives you good scope to grow. Instead of changing the platform , you can explore more on .net side.
All the best.

Regards,
Prachi.

Hai Raman,
Is it your choice to choose the DWH and Database related field? is yes then its good as if you have interest in to it then no problem but if you just want to change because of job opportunities and all, it's not good to change it.
There is lot of scope in Microsoft technologies in the future mainly in .net and as you will grow in the experience you will be attached with lot of other technologies too.
If you want to go with them then it's good to go in MS-BI which is very powerful and will be in high demand in the near future. With that your .net knowledge will also be improved.
Hope it will give you some idea.

Hi,
For data warehousing and data mining, you need to have idea about tools which retrieve, analyze and report data. You can explore following concepts if you want to switch to dataware housing field-
Spreadsheets , OLAP i.e. Online analytical processing , introduction of reporting and querying software, business performance management, local information systems.
You can also see open source free products such as RapidMiner,SpagoBI,
R, KNIME etc.
You can also study open source commercial products for better understanding.
Datawarehousing jobs include more on reporting, dashboards, data analysis, and data integration type of jobs.
