    Storage type for the finger print

    i have planed to develop an application using biometric finger print reader,for that i have store the particular persons finger print in the database.

    for that what is the column type that i have to specify(image,binary,etc.... like wise) to store the finger print. i'm using MS-SQL2005

    Use the binary datatype for your application. Binary datatype stores all the binary formats. But image datatype is used to store only the image related binary formats.

    If you store it as image you rendering is easy and you have to compare to two images becomes quite difficult...If you declare it a binary..the you have to store the images as bytes and while comparing the images you have to check whether the bytes are same...and it lot secure too..

    if you are storing images you need to render it and then store


    Variable-length binary data from 0 through 2^31-1 (2,147,483,647) bytes.
