Posted Date: 23 Aug 2009      Posted By:: Raghav       Member Level: Gold    Member Rank: 193     Points: 1   Responses: 18

Hello DNS'ians,

Julius Maurice Dias is a Diamond Member who joined DNS on 22nd February, 2009. He is a .NET addicted Software Developer who worked on all versions of .NET and a follower of WPF and he likes WPF very much. He has rich experience in various technologies like C,C++, Java, MFC, COM, DCOM, ASP, ASP.Net, Php, VB, VB.Net, Managed C++, C#, WPF, WCF, ASP.NET MVC, SQL 2000, SQL 2005 and now SQL 2008. Julias Maurice Dias is a Microsoft Certified Applicaiton Developer(MCAD). He is
currently working on ASP.NET 3.5 and is based at Brisbane, Australia.

He is a very active member of DNS and submited many articles and code snippets. He suggested a number of changes to DNS and were appreciated by Tony himself. Currently, he is working on ASP.Net 3.5 with the awesome MVC architecture.

He was awarded with DotNetSpider MVM award recently in July, 2009. We had an interview with him to get his views on DotNetSpider and his message to DotNetSpider members. Here is the interview we had with him.

Please tell us about yourself?

My name is Julius Dias. I am from Mumbai and currently based in Brisbane, Australia. I am .Net addicted software developer. I started my career working with C programming. I have worked on all version of .Net including the now in Beta 4.0. I am a very keen follower of WPF. WPF is in my blood, I just love it!!
Over my entire career I have worked on C, C++, Java, MFC, COM, DCOM, ASP, ASP.Net, Php, VB, VB.Net, Managed C++, C#, WPF, WCF, ASP.NET MVC, SQL 2000, SQL 2005 and now SQL 2008. I am a Microsoft Certified Application developer (MCAD).

I have worked on various aspects of technology like Threading, Remoting, Network programming, Interprocess Communication, Interop's, XML, Window's hooks, Attribute Based programming, Reverse engineering, Forward engineering, etc. I have done crazy stuff like interoping between Java and .Net. Also worked on the Cool .Net CodeDOM technology. I am a ardent fan of TDD and think every programmer should inculcate the habit of TDD. I strongly believe in Design patterns and am loving the architect work I am currently doing.

Currently, I am working on ASP.Net 3.5 with the awesome MVC architecture.

How did you get into DotNetSpider community?

I have been contributing on .Net related forums like Codeproject and MSDN Forums. Over a period I felt on increasing my contribution to other .Net forums. In my search for different forums contributing to .Net I was struck with DotNetSpider and was very much impressed by the way things were organized. This led me to an initial contribution to this community and there was no looking back then.

What motivated you to contribute in DotNetSpider?

DotNetSpider has a very different way to operate. It is not complicated to contribute here and also every contributions is recognized. Being on different forums immediately brought to my notice the ease and openness for the members here. I really want to highlight the way Raghav handles this community. Hats off to him. Having supportive and encouraging members like Chandu, Meetu, Gaurav, Anil, Deepika, Satish and Hefin is a bonus.

How much time do you spend on Technical communities to help
others?

I spend a lot of time on technical communities. In a day I am almost 6-7 hours on technical forums. These days it's being 80% of this time on DotNetSpider. Being an MVM now, I would be contributing a whole lot more in the form of resources and forum answers.

How are you balancing your Work life with your contribution in Technical Communities?

I have a very flexible working culture which allows me to contribute as per my comfort. I spend the day contributing to forums and my personal work. The rest part from evening goes into working. They say, 'real developers work by the night'

Please share with us your journey of becoming an DNS-MVM?

I started on a slow note, answering questions with a fuss. But then I started to get addicted to the forum. I was very eager to show off my skills actually. This led to winning my first award here, the Member of the week in April. Then on it has been a steady flow of forum contributions. In June, I went on to win the Best Forum Supporter and Member of the Week award both in the same week. That was awesome for me, a very rare recognition. Moving on, I started contributing to the resources section in the form of articles and code
snippets. WPF is one of my strong points and so I started putting out WPF resources. I also got approved as a WPF mentor. Then in July, I got recognized again by being awarded the best forum supporter. Over the period, I got a lot more addicted to DotNetSpider and hence started to think a lot to improve DotNetSpider. I have posted some suggestions for community improvement. Raghav, Meetu and Tony himself have been supportive of my suggestion. Finally,
21st August I was bestowed with the coveted MVM title. Awesome, fairytale journey. I am sure this journey will continue for a long time to come.

Few words about DotNetSpider?

Cannot be explained in 'Few words'. Every member part of DNS knows and realizes how good DotNetSpider is and will be. This is one of the only communities which recognizes ones contribution and knowledge. I am proud to be a part of DotNetSpider.

What are your career goals?

I would love to give Bill Gates a run for his money. Being practical, I would like to be known in technology world as a respected and knowledgeable person. Releasing a book on tips and tricks for better coding, debugging in C# .Net is one of my goals. Finally, every line of code I write compiles on every .Net version i.e. never go obsolete.

Best moment in DotNetSpider tenure?

Undoubtedly while writing this interview. I feel like a star filling up an interview sheet of my achievement, learning and experience. Thanks DotNetSpider. Thanks Tony. Thanks Raghav.

Thanks to all my well wishers who have supported me and help make this true.

Any message to technologists and suggestions to make DotNetSpider as World's number one Technical Site?

Please continue this way. You guys rock and are not very far from reaching the number one spot. I will always put forward suggestions to ensure that we all reach the heights soon. By the way, isn't DotNetSpider #1 ?
For the technologists, if you know something do share it. You will feel the sense of being knowledgeable and also enlighten someone else. Let the chain continue!

Hope this interview will be useful to all members.

Thank you

Raghav
Web Master
