View state not retaining dropdownlist value

Hi

in my project i am adding dropdownlist control dynamically and each time when i add a dropdown the previous dropdown should retain the values

I am able to retain the values only if i give same columnname for datatextfield and data value field if i bind different columns in datatext field and data value field the viewstate not retaining the dropdown values

can any one help to solve this..............
