Date Difference in oracle

Hi

Please tel me how to find the differnece in oracle.

My requiremnt is if the received date is same day i want to display the difference as hrs,mis,seconds.(hh:mm:ss)

if the received date is more than one day i want to display the difference as i day,2 day like ..

main thing i want to display waiting period based on received date
