Changes in automatic update of points

Posted Date: 02 Jul 2008      Posted By:: Tony John       Member Level: Gold    Member Rank: 68     Points: 1   Responses: 1

We made a small change last week. Until last week, your total points used to get updated as soon as you post anything.

Calculating the total points is a very complex operation and require reading several database tables to find all posts by the member and re calculate the points. Since we have several points programs, this process has become very complex and time consuming for our servers.

So, we have made a change. The points will not be re calculated any more automatically.

There are 2 ways you can re calculate your points:

1. Everytime you login to this site, your points will be automatically re calculated.

2. Go to My Account page and press the "Re Calculate My Points" button. This will instantly re calculate the points.

Sorry for this small inconvenience, but it will help our servers a lot.

Yeah Tony,
it is not at all a inconvenience for the members because just by a small click on the button, they will get the update of their points rather than overloading the servers with work.
