How to retrieve mails from gmail account in VB.Net 2005?

I want to develop an windows application that will retrieve emails from my gmail's account(similar to outlook express).
I am trying to do it using socket class as follows -
TCP = New Net.Sockets.TcpClient
TCP.Connect("pop.gmail.com", 995)

but after this I didn't get any response.
So how to retrieve mail ?:confused:
